Biography

She was born in 1996 in A Guarda, where she began her bagpipe studies at the "Conservatorio Elemental de Música de A Guarda" at the age of 9 years old. In 2015, she was awarded the Extraordinary End of Grade Prize in the speciality of "Gaita" and, in the same year, she began her studies in the speciality of "Instrumentos da Música Tradicional e Popular de Galicia" (IMTP) at the "Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo" with Rebeca Carrera. She attended the 3rd course as an erasmus student at LUCA School of Arts, Campus Lemmens (Belgium) where she learnt to play the Baroque Musette with Doctor Jean-Pierre Van Hees, one of the greatest specialists in the world. During this stay abroad she has given lectures about Galician bagpipes in Belgium and Slovakia and she has participated in several music festivals throughout Europe in countries such as Belgium, Slovakia, Croatia and France.

 

She complements her academic training by regularly attending courses and workshops given by prestigious bagpipers in the country such as Daniel Bellón, Pablo Devigo, Xurxo Fernández and Marcos Campos among others.

 

As a bagpiper she has participated in different festivals in Europe (France, Croatia, Belgium...), and in the last years, she has participated in several solo bagpipe contests such as the recent Soloist Competition of Bagpipes (France) where she obtained the 1st prize, XVII Concurso de Música Tradicional Xacarandaina, 1st prize (2016), I Concurso de gaita e tamboril de Tui, 2nd prize (2015).

 

She is currently studying a "Master in Music" in the speciality of "Baroque Musette" at LUCA School of Arts, she plays with the Charanga of the traditional music and dance group "Traspés" of Vigo and in 2019 she starts her personal project Nadia Vázquez Trío together with Fernando Estévez and Martiño Malleiro.
